1303 meals provided to the community, Scholars Volunteer at Second Harvest Food Bank
This month, Winston-Salem Scholars flexed their volunteer muscles and helped out at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC. Responsible for 18 counties in Northwest NC, this Second Harvest site provides mobile pantries, Meals on Wheels, job training, summer meals, nutrition services, and a variety of other resources to under-resourced communities. Students spent the day shaping meatballs for Meals on Wheels, packing freezer meals for communities experiencing food insecurity, and putting together non-perishable food boxes for the holidays. Together our LAUNCH Scholars packed 200 boxes, rolled 1600 meatballs, and bagged 2304 dinner rolls, resulting in a total of 1303 meals provided to the community. After volunteering and lunch at the Second Harvest space, groups got to work in their YPAR groups for the first time to begin brainstorming their project.
