Rachel, 2025-2026 LAUNCH Scholar

If you could write a letter to your past self that you would receive on the first day of the College LAUNCH for Leadership Program, what would you tell yourself to expect, what to lean into, and what you have gained so far from your experience?

Dear Rachel on the First Day of LAUNCH,

I’m sure you’re feeling a mix of excitement and nerves right now. Stepping into a new environment can feel intimidating, but trust me you’ll feel welcome in a heartbeat! The people you’re about to meet will become more than just fellow scholars, they’ll turn into your community. You’re going to build meaningful friendships and connect with students who share your same goals and ambitions, especially as you collaborate on your YPAR social justice project.

Take in every workshop, even the ones you didn’t expect to love. They will end up being some of the most impactful parts of your experience. Each session will challenge you, engage you, and give you clarity on things that once felt overwhelming. Building your college list, understanding financial aid, and shaping your college essay were all topics you had trouble with grasping that you now hold between your finger tips.

Most importantly, don’t forget why you’re here. As a Black, low-income, first-generation student, opportunities like this are irreplaceable and you deserve to take up space in them. LAUNCH will give you more than just information, but confidence, direction, and a clearer vision for your future.

Sincerely,
Your Future Self
